John Brinkerhoff Jackson once wrote that:

I want Americans to explore the landscape for its own sake, to develop an intelligent affection for the country as it is and a vision disciplined enough to distinguish what is wrong and should be changed from what is valuable and worthy of protection.

Our goal is to engage in that exploration, to discover the landscape again.  We are currently working on the first issue of Landscapes, an online (and hopefully print) experiment in cultural geography.  If you are interested in following along with the development of the project or contributing to it, please pull up a chair on the Front Porch.
